    Festival

The Deauville American Film Festival was created in 1975 by Lionel Chouchan and André Halimi at the instigation of Michel d’Ornano, then Mayor of Deauville, and Lucien Barrière, then Chairman of the eponymous group. The City of Deauville delegates co-organization of the Festival to HOPSCOTCH Cinéma and the Centre International de Deauville. LPSC is responsible for artistic direction, while C.I.D. contributes its expertise in event organization.

The Festival showcases the diversity of American cinema, from major Hollywood productions to independent films. It is the only European festival of this scale to open its doors to the public. Each year, over a hundred screenings are presented at three venues: the Centre International de Deauville, the Cinéma du Casino Barrière and the Cinéma le Morny.

The festival has revealed works that have left their mark on cinema: Little Odessa by James Gray, Pi by Darren Aronofsky, Ça tourne à Manhattan by Tom DiCillo, Being John Malkovich by Spike Jonze, Memento by Christopher Nolan, Bienvenue dans l’âge ingrat by Todd Solondz, Collision by Paul Haggis, Hedwig and the Angry Inch by John Cameron Mitchell, Little Miss Sunshine by Valérie Faris & Jonathan Dayton, Take Shelter by Jeff Nichols, Whiplash by Damien Chazelle, Captain Fantastic by Matt Ross, Beasts of the Southern Wild by Ben Zeitlin, A Ghost Story by David Lowery… Every year, the festival is acclaimed for the quality and demanding nature of its programming.
