CID at the Heart of Global Medical Innovation: Looking Back at the 64th PTCOG Congress

1

Last week, in June 2026, the Centre International de Deauville (CID) had the privilege of welcoming the international scientific community for the 64th Annual Congress of the Particle Therapy Cooperative Group (PTCOG). For six days, Deauville became the world capital of hadron therapy, a cutting-edge radiation treatment that uses charged particles to target cancer with unparalleled precision.

An Internationally Significant Event

This major scientific gathering brought together between 1,500 and 1,800 participants—including oncologists, physicists, researchers, and industry professionals—from around the world to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest technological and clinical advances.

Hosting such a prestigious congress once again highlights the ability of Deauville and the CID to deliver large-scale international events. Our teams leveraged the flexibility of our facilities, including the iconic ORNANO Grand Auditorium with its 1,500-seat capacity, as well as our numerous breakout rooms, to meet PTCOG’s demanding academic and organizational requirements.

A Diverse Program: From Education to Quantum Physics

The congress featured several key highlights:

  • Education and Knowledge Transfer: The first two days were dedicated to an intensive educational program, including, for the first time, dedicated sessions for allied healthcare professionals and paramedical staff.
  • Science and Research: The following three days focused on the scientific congress itself, covering critical topics such as pancreatic cancer treatment and the synergies between hadron therapy and immunotherapy.
  • A Distinguished Guest: The participation of Professor Alain Aspect, Nobel Prize laureate in Physics, was one of the event’s most memorable moments, showcasing the excellence of French research and its contribution to medical innovation.

Where Technological Excellence Meets the Norman Art of Living

Beyond the scientific sessions, delegates had the opportunity to discover the many attractions of the region. A memorable gala evening at the Clairefontaine Racecourse celebrated local culture and the region’s deep-rooted equestrian heritage, providing participants with a unique networking environment.

The event concludes tomorrow, June 13, with an exceptional technical visit to the Cyclhad center in Caen. Experts will have the opportunity to discover the “C400,” an ultra-compact and highly innovative particle accelerator developed through a collaboration between Normandy’s scientific teams and industry partners.

Normandy: A Land of Knowledge and Innovation

By hosting this global congress, the CID and the city of Deauville further strengthen their position as a premier destination for major knowledge-sharing events. We are proud to have contributed to the international visibility of a discipline that continues to push the boundaries of therapeutic precision and improve patient outcomes worldwide.
